Alessandro Gaj graduated from Bergamo University in 1996 where he completed his dissertation on ‘Labour Adjustment Costs and a Company’s Financial Structure’ and then went on to complete his academic training at Glasgow University where he obtained his MSc in Economics. He has more than 10 years of experience in research and teaching activity in both Italian and British universities, which include Stirling University, Bergamo University and the Catholic University of Sacred Hearth of Milan.

Alessandro’s research interests focus on the relationship between a company’s organisational design, human resources management, development of an employee’s competences and company performance. Of particular interest are learning and knowledge theories and furthermore how companies can take advantage from knowledge creation and improved learning skills of its employees.

Alessandro has been coordinator of international projects for public and private institutions and associations, among which are Lombardy Region, Province of Bergamo and the Association of SME firms. Generally these projects aimed at the analysis, development and evaluation of active labour market policies, gender policies and in general at the analysis of local and national labour markets. He is also the author and co-author of books and peer reviewed journals, and has presented his own works in international conferences and seminars. He is a member of the Italian Labour Economists Association and the Association for the Development of Bank and Stock Exchange Studies.
