Fergal De Clar

Fergal de Clar has been a lecturer with ESE since 2007. Previously he spent over a decade in Treasury & Investments, first as an Investment Fund analyst and then in Foreign Exchange and Money Markets. He subsequently established a financial intermediary business and, since moving to Italy, has worked as a consultant and lecturer. His current focus is on Sustainability & CSR and he has started work on a PhD on the financial models used to value Eco-projects.

He was employed for 10 years in Barclays Capital, first as a Corporate Foreign Exchange dealer, advising corporate clients on managing their FX exposures. Subsequently, after a period advising clients on their Interest Rate Exposures, he traded money market derivatives. Finally, as Head of Money Markets, he was responsible for managing Barclays Capital Ireland’s balance sheet and for a team of Money Market corporate advisors. Having completed a Masters in Business Studies (specializing in Management Consultancy), he acted as an internal management consultant in Barclays, responsible for the re-organisation of the dealing rooms in Dublin and Milan.

After leaving Barclays, he established a financial intermediary business, focusing on the booming mortgage market in Ireland. Following a move to Italy, he developed a property advisory business, acting on behalf of high net-worth investors. He began lecturing in ESE in 2007, specializing in Finance and is now module leader for several undergraduate and postgraduate Finance courses. Building on an interest in Sustainability, he began lecturing in “Managing for Sustainability” and has recently started work on a PhD in this area. He also offers consultancy to companies on developing Green strategies and is an auditor for the SA8000 CSR standard.
