Art Consultancy

The art world is dynamic and continually evolving, requiring art professionals with the energy and passion to not only follow but premeditate artistic developments and changes.

An art consultant is a person that offers professional assistance to individuals or businesses regarding the purchase of works of art. This advice may be for a wide range of purposes, from building a personal collection for enjoyment, to designing an art programme for a chain of hotels, to building an investment portfolio.

Successful agents never looses sight of their client. A skilled art consultant will understand the individual taste, likes and dislikes of their client, the limits and fl exibility of their budget, and be able to fulfi ll these needs with precision.

Businesses and corporate art consultancy is a growing trend – these art consultants may be hired as freelance consultants, or as an in-house member of the organisation for those corporations with a large collection to manage.

An art consultant may also serve principally as an investment adviser to individual or corporate clients. In this case, the consultant is expected to have a very comprehensive understanding of trends in the art world, including being familiar with new artists, which artists are undervalued, and where large risks may be taken for potentially large gains. These consultants work hand in hand with clients to diversify an art portfolio at auction, or through private sales to reach the level of risk-to-gain they desire.

The Professional Art Consultancy Certificate is intended as a bridge for students and pro- fessionals interested in entering this growing business sector.
