The Certificate in Finance is aimed at aspiring fund managers and professional investment analysts, and examines the principles of financing and investment decisions and their impact across a broad range of contemporary management issues. Students not only examine the external causes and effects of wealth, but more importantly are urged to look at the invisible inner causes.
This course provides a synthesis of financial policy into a strategy which integrates organisational purpose and goals. The focus of the course is on current thinking regarding valuation of the firm, investment decision processes, financing, and dividend policy, asset management, financial strategies and portfolio theory. This course also covers financial analysis, planning, and the concept of risk. It includes the formation and use of current assets, working capital, and credit policy. Financial management includes the understanding of long term financing instruments and the capital structure.
The certificate comprises 4 modules. Each module entails one 3 hours session per week over 12 weeks, either day or evening study. Total classroom time of 36 hours per module.
Internship (Optional): 3-month placement after the ending of 4 modules.
The course is delivered through a series of tutorials and seminars including case studies. Assessment is through a group project and presentation, an individual essay and a final exam. Participants are expected to undertake at least two hours per week of independent study. Upon successful completion of the four modules, students are awarded an ESE certificate.
