ESE New York Makes A Dream Come True with Versace Internship

"A frantic lively city and a fascinating and stimulating job: I'm having a fantastic time, and not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined to have achieved it at 23 years old".

That is how Michela Gombacci, a young Triestian employed in the publicity and events department of Versace in New York, described her life. After getting her degree in Political Science at the University of Trieste, Michela decided to attend the European School of Economics in the Big Apple. "I enrolled in the "Certificate Program in Fashion & Luxury Goods Management" which included classes, workshops and various projects, as well as an internship in the fashion industry. I was looking for an international environment, but I found much, much more. I took various classes, from fashion marketing management to one about major events. And the American approach - she stressed - is much more practical than the European one. The lessons were hardly ever just theory: it was about developing projects, both in groups and individually, and making presentations."

It was thanks to the institute's contacts that Michela got an interview a few months ago with Versace's marketing-events department and was successful in getting her current job. "A unique possibility. In the company's corporate office we are all young, which means that the United States is a country that continues to invest in the new generations, something that in Italy rarely happens." "Right from the beginning," she said, "I was involved in various areas of the label: I did the inventory for the Versace's latest spring collection; I attended a meeting with managers, stylists, photographers and models; and I attended an important photo-shoot, Versace's first in the USA. Every day I cover various roles," continues Michela, "that range from reviewing the papers, to booking models for future photo-shoots, to presenting marketing plans, to sending and delivering outfits to the USA or to Europe, to planning media relations and the insertion (publishing) of advertisements in various magazines like Vogue or Elle".

Michela's wish is to give it her all, in order to grow within the sector. "It is an experience that surprises me every day. When I think back I realise that I made the right choice, New York was the source of my choice because I love this city, but it is this metropolis that makes my job special. It is not just the multicultural environment, opportunities, hopes and variety of things to do, it is the air that you breathe walking through the streets, the awareness," concludes Michela, "that we are all here to try to realise a dream".
