Fashion Management

Fashion management not only embraces the design, production and marketing of clothing, but also a wide range of industrial and leisure goods. A new genre of managers with a sharpened sense of creativity and a strong foundation in cross-cultural communications and international business is needed to respond to the needs of an ever more sensitive consumer and competitive market in the fields of manufacturing and merchandising.

Working closely with fashion industry professionals and organisations the Fashion Management Certificate equips students with a relevant skill base for a wider, clearer and more pertinent understanding of the business. It offers an inside knowledge of industry strategies and cultures combined with a strong underpinning of key business skills, and in addition offers essential fashion industry management knowledge (such as strategic innovation and technology, product sourcing, and supply chain management issues).

The course encourages the development of strategic and entrepreneurial vision, understanding of how to effectively respond to constant changes in consumer demand and personal development appropriate to careers in the fashion and luxury business.

The certificate comprises 4 modules. Each module entails one 3 hours session per week over 12 weeks, either day or evening study. Total classroom time of 36 hours per module.

Internship (Optional): 3-month placement after the ending of 4 modules.

The course is delivered through a series of tutorials and seminars including case studies. Assessment is through a group project and presentation, an individual essay and a final exam. Participants are expected to undertake at least two hours per week of independent study. Upon successful completion of the four modules, students are awarded an ESE certificate. Modules may also be taken independently.
